Kazakh researchers have recently published a study in the authoritative academic journal Genes, publishing for the first time the whole genome sequencing (WGS) data of hybrid camels.
This study makes an important contribution to understanding the genetic structure of camels. Dromedary and bactrian camels have been described in detail in previous academic literature. However, there is not enough scientific research on the hybrids between dromedaries and bactrians. The Kazakh study fills this gap.
At present, only two countries in the world are carrying out hybrid camel breeding programs, namely Kazakhstan and Turkey.
For the first time, researchers in Kazakhstan have published complete genome sequencing data from five hybrid camels successfully bred in Almaty and compared them with WGS data from dromedaries, bactrians and wild camels.
The results of this study will contribute to further research and conservation of camel genetic resources. This research result can provide valuable comparative data for future research on this topic.
