On 26 May, Professor Marc F. Schetelig, Head of the Department of Plant Protection and Insect Biotechnology at the University of Giessen, came to AGIS for an exchange discussion, where the two sides shared the research progress made in insect protection and agreed to build a "joint laboratory".

At the meeting, Wan Fanghao, Researcher at the Ecology Center of AGIS, and Professor Marc F. Schetelig, Director of the Department of Plant Protection and Insect Biotechnology at Giessen, as representatives of both sides, exchanged in-depth views and suggestions, and reached a consensus on the adverse effects caused by invasive organisms and the urgency of developing prevention and control strategies. Focusing on "the next generation of prevention and control strategies based on big Data of major invasive species", the Joint Research Agreement was reached on scientific research cooperation, joint laboratory construction and joint graduate student training, and the text exchange ceremony of the cooperation agreement was held. In the later stage, we will promote the level of AGIS and Giessen to reach a strategic cooperation in science and education, and prepare for the joint application of "National Key Research and Development Plan - Intergovernmental International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation - Key Special Project" and "Horizon Series projects".

It is known that the University of Giessen is one of the oldest higher education institutions in Germany, with 11 faculties and more than 150 specialties, and has a long history of providing quality education and promoting pioneering research, among which the Department of Plant Protection and Insect Biotechnology focuses on food science and environmentally friendly pest green inputs. It has a deep research foundation in the establishment of genes, genome manipulation, and genetic control strategies of harmful insects, and the site-specific recombination system established by its members not only provides an alternative tool for transgene insertion, but also can directly and quickly compare different functional constructs.
