Starting from 2024, the International Association for Wind Engineering（IAWE） has named the Junior Award as the Giovanni Solari Youth Medal in honour of Prof. Giovanni Solari, former President of IAWE, for his outstanding contributions to the field of wind engineering. After voting by the IAWE Award Committee and reviewing by the Executive Committee, it was finally decided that the only Solari Junior Medal in the world for the year 2024 (the first one after the name change) would be awarded to Prof Hu Gang of the HITSZ.

Hu Gang is a professor and PhD supervisor at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the HITSZ. Professor Hu Gang mainly adopts artificial intelligence techniques, wind tunnel test techniques and computational fluid dynamics to conduct research related to aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, wind engineering and wind energy. Currently, he is the assistant director of Guangdong Key Laboratory of Intelligent Toughness Structures for Civil Engineering, a member of the Academic Committee on Wind Engineering of the Bridge and Structures Branch of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineers, a member of the National Specialised Committee on Wind Disaster Resistance and Utilisation, an executive member of the Executive Committee on Intelligent Fluid Dynamics, and the secretary and executive member of the Hong Kong Wind Engineering Association. He has been selected by Stanford University as one of the top 2% of the world's leading scientists in the ‘2022 Impact’ list. In recent years, Prof Hu has been working closely with large technology retail companies on the safety of low altitude UAV flights, and has developed urban high-resolution wind field prediction technology, which provides real-time wind field data for UAVs to ensure the safety of UAV flights, and contributes to the development of low altitude economy.
