1、City Overview

Seattle was founded on Dec. 2, 1869, named after the Seattle Chiefs. It is located along the Pacific coast in the northwest of Washington state, between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, and is part of King County, Washington state. It is bordered to the west by the Olympic Mountains and to the east by Lake Washington, and is approximately 174 kilometers away from the Canadian US border.  

Seattle has an area of approximately 220 square kilometers, with rivers, forests, and lakes widely distributed, and belongs to a temperate maritime climate. In 2023, the total population of the city is approximately 760,000, ranking among the top 20 urban populations in the United States.  

  

2、Economic and industrial development

The Seattle area enjoys advantages in aerospace, information technology, life sciences and biotechnology engineering, clean technology, and environmental industries, but agriculture is relatively backward, mainly growing common agricultural products such as wheat and vegetables; The city's industry is mainly manufacturing, making it a major industrial center in the northwest of the United States. Other industries include chemical and steel refining; Its service industry is very developed, with a large number of mid to high end institutions such as lawyers and audit firms, management and technical consulting agencies, and human resources service agencies.  

  

3、Exchange and Cooperation

On June 25, 2015, the then Mayor of Shenzhen, Xu Qin, and the Mayor of Seattle, Murray, jointly signed a memorandum of understanding on friendly exchanges and cooperation between Shenzhen and Seattle, officially establishing the two cities as friendly exchange cities.
