
1、City Overview
Poznan is a city in central western Poland and the capital of Greater Poland Province. It is located in the center of the Greater Poland Plain, adjacent to the Varta River. The city covers an area of 261.3 square kilometers and has a population of 554,000. It belongs to a mild continental climate and has the characteristic of transitioning from a maritime climate in Western Europe to a continental climate in Eastern Europe.
Poznan is an important cultural center in Poland, with a large number of cultural facilities such as opera houses, exhibition halls, museums, libraries, cinemas, etc. There are various cultural activities held here every year, including music festivals, drama festivals, film festivals, etc.
2、Economic and industrial development
Poznan is one of the largest industrial, transportation, cultural, educational, and scientific research centers in Poland, with numerous industrial sectors mainly focused on mechanical manufacturing (machine tools, bearings, locomotives, precision machinery, etc.), as well as metallurgy, chemistry, rubber, textiles, and more.
Based on its long history of handicrafts and trade, Poznan today boasts a developed construction industry, a comprehensive service network, efficient agriculture, excellent education, and numerous research institutions, placing its economic and social development at the forefront of Polish cities.
Like Shenzhen, Poznan is also a city of exhibitions and conferences, with a history of hosting various international exhibitions for nearly a century. It has significant influence throughout Poland and even in Central and Eastern Europe.
3、Highlights of Interactions with Shenzhen
Shenzhen and Poznan established sister city relations on July 30, 1993. Poznan is also one of the first cities to establish friendly relations with Shenzhen. Since their establishment, both sides have engaged in close exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as culture, art, and education. The two cities also exchange symphony orchestras, well-known artist groups and other art groups for performances, hold painting and photography exhibitions, and promote the common development of education in the two cities through educational cooperation projects such as international student exchange and vocational education school docking.
The two cities have held economic and trade docking activities in each other's cities to promote bilateral economic and trade investment cooperation. In May 2019, the Poznan City delegation participated in the Shenzhen International Friendship City Smart City Forum and Mayor's Roundtable, and signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Building an International Friendly Smart City Ecological Circle.
During the epidemic of COVID-19 infection, the two cities shared Shenzhen's experience in epidemic prevention through video link. In 2021, Yazek Jankowiak, the Mayor of Poznan, Poland, attended the World Innovation City Forum held in our city online and delivered a keynote speech titled "Building Innovative, Inclusive, and Sustainable Cities Together".
