1、City Overview

Delft is located in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands, between The Hague and Rotterdam, about 14 kilometers northwest of Rotterdam. Delft has an area of 24 square kilometers and a population of approximately 100,000 people.

Delft is also one of the famous tourist cities in the Netherlands, known for its canals, arch bridges, and numerous old buildings, and is therefore regarded by some as a microcosm of Amsterdam. Delft and the city center of Amsterdam do have some similarities, with an average elevation of 2-4 meters below sea level. However, Delft is far more than just a miniature version of the latter: it is also the hometown of the great Dutch painter Vermeer, a permanent resting place for many members of the Dutch royal family, and famous for centuries for its blue pottery firing techniques.

2、Economic and industrial development

Delft was famous for producing pottery in the 18th century and was a renowned center for pottery manufacturing. In addition, it also had industries such as machinery and shipbuilding.

Education and research: Delft is known as the 'City of Knowledge'. Delft University of Technology is one of the three renowned higher engineering universities in the Netherlands. In addition, there is the International Institute of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (IHE), which specializes in water education and research, as well as the Dutch Delta Institute, an independent research institution in the fields of water conservancy, port and navigation, and environment.

Tourism: Delft is one of the famous tourist cities in the Netherlands. The inner city is filled with waterways and small bridges, and old buildings stand tall. Delft's blue porcelain is world-renowned, originally inspired by the imitation of Chinese blue and white porcelain. The Royal Delft blue pottery factory was founded in 1653 and is the largest handmade pottery factory in the Netherlands. It still adheres to the ancient tradition of hand drawn pottery production to this day. The Vermeer Center introduces the artist Vermeer through various audio-visual and participatory exhibitions, allowing people to understand the era and creative background of Vermeer's life. Vermeer's representative works include "The Girl with Pearl Earrings," "The Maid Pouring Milk," and "Delft Landscape," among others.
