From November 28th to 29th, the 2022 China-Japan University Science and Technology Innovation Forum was held in Wuhan. The forum is co-sponsored by the China Association For International Exchange of Personnel(CAIEP) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency(JST). The forum is also undertaken by the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province. Nearly 30 university presidents and nearly 120 representatives from China and Japan participated in this forum online. Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, Li Xin, Deputy Director of Department of Foreign Expert Services, Xia Bin, Deputy Director of China Association For International Exchange of Personnel, Wu Jun, Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, Koji Kitayama, Deputy Director-General, the Science and Technology Policy Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Okimura Kazuki, Honorary President of JST attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

Wu Jun pointed out that Hubei has always attached great importance to scientific and technological innovation and talent exchanges with Japan, and has maintained long-term friendly cooperation with the Japan Science and Technology Agency. The two sides have frequent exchanges of visits, and research and development cooperation projects between universities, institutions and enterprises have increased year by year. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, Hubei will continue to give play to its complementary advantages with Japan in the field of science and technology, strengthen communication and coordination, carry out higher, deeper, and broader scientific and technological innovation cooperation, promote the steady and long-term development of China-Japan scientific and technological cooperation and personnel exchanges, and jointly write a new chapter of win-win cooperation.

This forum is composed of the main forum, sub-forums and seminars. The main forum focused on hot topics such as outstanding issues, common challenges, and innovation needs faced by development. The sub-forums invited presidents of more than 20 well-known universities in China and Japan around the topics of “New Mechanisms and New Models for International Cooperation and Talent Cultivation between Chinese and Japanese Universities” and “How to Leverage Universities Advantages in Scientific Research and Talents to Serve Social Development and Progress” to hold discussions. The research exchange meeting focused on agriculture, traditional Chinese medicine, and low-carbon, and invited researchers from Chinese and Japanese universities to conduct academic exchanges and sharing, laying the foundation for practical cooperation.

The China-Japan University Science and Technology Innovation Forum is currently the largest non-governmental inter-university exchange event between China and Japan. Since 2010, a number of forum activities have been held in China, aiming to promote the joint research of industry, university and research, scientific and cultural exchanges and talent exchanges between Chinese and Japanese universities, so as to contribute to achieve a wider and higher level of mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between China and Japan.
