On the evening of December 12, the 2022 Workshop for Thought Leaders Guangzhou Award 10th Anniversary Celebration opened in Guangzhou. Representatives from more than 100 cities in more than 50 countries and regions around the world, representatives of many international organizations, experts and scholars attended the event online and offline.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Guo Yonghang, Mayor of Guangzhou, Mr. Mohamad Saadie, President of Union of Dannieh Municipalities, Lebanon, Mr. Jordi Vaquer, Secretary General of Metropolis, Mr Hamid Reza Gholamzadeh, Deputy Mayor of Tehran, lran, Secretary General of Asian Mayors Forum, Mr. Yu Keping, Chair Professor at Peking University, Co-Chair of the 5th Guangzhou Award Jury,  and Mr. Christoph Wiederkehr, Deputy Mayor of Vienna, Austria, delivered speeches respectively.  Mr. Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, the Uk, Mr. Amath Dia,General Secretary of the Department of Saint-Louis, Senegal, Ms.Anna Scavuzzo, Vice Mayor of Milan, Italy, Ms. Evgeniya Lodvigova, Deputy Mayor of Kazan, Russia,  Mr. James Vos. Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities, City of Cape Town, South Africa sent video messages. The representatives jointly congratulated the achievements of the Guangzhou Award in the past ten years, and fully affirmed the positive contribution of the Guangzhou Award to urban innovation and sustainable development.

It is reported that the Guangzhou Award, as the first international award named after a Chinese city, is held every two years and has been successfully held for five times. A total of 1,361 cases from 556 cities in 96 countries and regions participated in the evaluation. It has now become an international public product for mutual learning among cities around the world. The 2022 Workshop for Thought Leaders was established under the framework of the Guangzhou Award and held in the year after the award, aiming to study the cases of award-winning cities. It has been successfully held three editions so far.

The 2022 Workshop for Thought Leaders Guangzhou Award 10th Anniversary Celebration will be held online from December 12th to 15th at the International Hall of the Baiyun International Convention Center under the theme “Innovative Cities, Shared Future”. This event mainly reviews, summarizes, and showcases the achievements of the Guangzhou Award series, and will also hold a number of international exchange seminars around the themes of "Green City and Climate Resilience" and "Urban Heritage and Cultural Protection".
