From November 22 to 24, the field competition of the 2022 National Disruptive Technology Innovation Competition was held in Suzhou High-tech Zone. Xu Dongming, Member of the Party Committee and Chief Engineer of Torch High Technology Industry Development Center, Ministry of Science and Technology, Zhang Dongchi, Vice Chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Suzhou Committee and Director of the Science and Technology Bureau, and other responsible officials attended the event.

Xu Dongming pointed out at the opening ceremony that the Ministry of Science and Technology attaches great importance to the work of disruptive technological innovation. Under the guidance of relevant departments and bureaus, the Torch Center actively gives play to the advantages of the torch work system, focuses on technological breakthrough and industrial transformation, collects technology projects for the whole society, innovates multiple rounds of cross-review mechanism, builds a multi-level review expert database, breaks the traditional rules of scoring and evaluating scientific and technological innovation events, and explores an effective path to identify and select disruptive technology projects.

At the opening ceremony, the winning project representatives of the first National Disruptive Technology Innovation Competition finals, Xu Zhuo, Director of Suzhou Sicui Electronic Functional Materials Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd, and Gu Zhongze, Dean of Institute of Medical Devices (Suzhou), Southeast University, respectively introduced the subversive breakthroughs of transparent ferroelectric single crystal with ultra-high voltage electrical properties and human organ chip in the fields of photoacoustic imaging, quantum optical devices and drug screening clinical experiment alternatives. Wu Fengchang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Sun Lining, dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Soochow University, made keynote speeches on river basin pollution and carbon reduction and green development and  interdisciplinary integration to promote robot technology innovation.

The regional competitions of the 2022 National Disruptive Technology Innovation Competition were held in Suzhou, Chengdu and Qingdao. Suzhou regional competition covers the three major technical fields of biotechnology, green technology and new energy. After three days of competition, 110 participating projects from 20 provinces or municipalities across the country finally selected 31 projects to win the field competition award.

The National Disruptive Technology Innovation Competition, sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology and hosted by the Torch Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, aims to highlight disruptive technology innovation, strengthen the supply of disruptive technology, cultivate a disruptive innovation culture, and explore a new mechanism of discovery-selection-cultivation of disruptive technology. Through the preliminary screening, regional competition and final three links, the competition focuses on exploring strategic and forward-looking disruptive technology directions and projects.
