"Hong Kong, officially known as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, had a total population of 7.4742 million people as of the end of 2020. Together with New York and London, it is known as "NYLON" and is the third largest financial center in the world, an important international financial, trade, shipping and innovation and technology center, as well as one of the most free and competitive cities in the world. It enjoys high reputation in the world, and was ranked third in the world's first-tier cities by GaWC.

 

The Hong Kong SAR government has been determined to develop Hong Kong into a knowledge-based economic system, which has been recognized internationally. For example, in the "2021 World Digital Competitiveness Ranking", Hong Kong ranked first in Asia and second in the world, with the best performance in the "Technology" sub-factor, ranking first in the world. Currently, Hong Kong is also the largest biotech fundraising center in Asia and the second largest in the world. Five universities in Hong Kong have overall performance and engineering and technology disciplines among the world's top 100, and two medical schools are among the top 50.

 

Supported by the national "14th Five-Year Plan", Hong Kong will continue to actively integrate into the new development pattern of the country and participate in the construction of the international science and technology innovation center in the Greater Bay Area, contributing to "what the country needs" from both the "external circulation" and "internal circulation" aspects, and giving full play to "Hong Kong's strengths". Hong Kong will continue to explore measures for cross-border flow of innovative elements, strengthen international scientific and technological innovation cooperation, and build high-level scientific and technological infrastructure and innovation platforms.

 

Hong Kong has always held large-scale international innovation events, including the Asian Financial Forum, the Asian Medical and Health Summit, and RISE, one of the most influential tech events in the world. Relevant institutions include Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Corporation, Cyberport and Productivity Council, which have organized international innovation activities.

 

Hong Kong's R&D teams have also been collaborating with world-class teams. Therefore, the Hong Kong SAR government has launched the flagship international project "InnoHK Innovation Hong Kong R&D Platform", which focuses on medical technology and artificial intelligence and robotics technology through "Health@lnnoHK" and "AIR@InnoHK", respectively. The platform has 28 laboratories, established by local institutions in collaboration with more than 30 world-renowned colleges and research institutions from 11 economies, and has been launched one after another."
