Guangzhou is the capital city of Guangdong Province and a national central city, designated by the State Council as an international metropolis, international business and trade center, international comprehensive transportation hub, national comprehensive gateway city, and national historical and cultural city. The city of Guangzhou has 11 districts, covering an area of 7,434.4 square kilometers, with a population of over 22 million under its management and service.

 

As one of the most open and market-oriented cities in China, Guangzhou has a history of over 2,230 years and was an important starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road. It is also a crucial node city on the "Belt and Road" initiative. Guangzhou has been ranked as a world-class city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC) in its World Cities Report. Guangzhou is known as the "Flower City" and has met the national standards for PM2.5 concentration, with an average of 30 micrograms per cubic meter, making it one of the first among the national central cities to meet the standard. Guangzhou is also renowned as a "food paradise," an international fashion capital, and an international consumption center, with a reputation as a city of "fashion, food, customization, e-commerce, and exhibitions."
